Ireland’s
popularity as a tourist destination is ensured by its famously easy going
lifestyle, cultural heritage and breathtaking scenery.
When
I came to know Irish people are wordsmiths and Dublin’s
native sons are writers George Bernard Shaw, who express the beauty of Ireland
and many poets also inspired by the scenic beauty. Earlier also about these
writers we use to read in our school or college syllabus but no practical
knowledge.
This is the things when I was
25years old first time I was going to Ireland to join in the population
approximately 3.5 million for my further studies, Master in Travel and Tourism
Managements after completion of my graduation from the University of Hyderabad.
I started my dream from Hyderabad Airport, where I experienced lots of
inconvenience when I am citizen of the same country because that time I doesn’t
know the world, only I use to go college
and from there to home, or if getting time went to movies with friends, meaning
when you are starting your dream in reality you should be aware of everything
what would be the next step in life, but I started without any practical knowledge
and experience of life, like wise I expected the same when I reached Ireland I
don’t even know any body who can receive me, which is an Indian nature when
ever you are going for a foreign trip for a visit or for a job, for a business,
what ever will be the reason some body should come and send off or receive from
the airport, but this will never happens when you go to foreign countries
nobody is having that much time for these things.
It was after noon when I
reached to Ireland capital city Dublin, there was one thing which we have to
face at airport who are not Irish or British citizens are required to carry a
valid travel document, should carrying sufficient funds, if you are not able
fulfill the requirements of immigration authorities they will send you back
from the airport only, and if you are
carrying poultry products or raw material from outside then that will also
another issue at the airport, which we are having the habit of carrying these
kinds of things, so after clearing everything at airport as per my travel consultant
instruction I hired one cab to go first to my university so that I can complete
university formalities and can do arrangements of my accommodation. This was my
second step of my dream first of all you will face the food problem in foreign
countries and language. But Dublin
is the Capital city so I dint face that much problem at least in language.
Its been called the land of saints and
scholars and Ireland’s rich
literary heritage resides in the capital Dublin,
which is steeped in history and buzzing with youthful energy. Take a stroll
along Grafton street in the heart of the city and you’ll find Georgian,
Medieval and modern architecture happily co-existing and you will realize why
it is one of Europe’s success stories. From
financial services to rock music, business is booming and a notably
cosmopolitan young crowd gathers in its many cafes and pubs.
Temple bar area comes alive at night and is
well worth a visit. Like wise, Trinity
College, Dublin is a major tourist attraction and
houses the Books of Kells, a magnificently illuminated manuscript embellished
by monks in the 9th century. When you leave Trinity College,
one statue you won’t miss is that of the city’s mascot who welcomes visitors to
the main shopping areas. Aran sweaters, Irish linen, Water ford crystal and
Donegal tweed are just some of the Irish specialties, which make unique
souvenirs of your holiday. Personal walking tours of the city have been
facilitated by Dublin Tourism who have launched and innovative series of audio
guides. The summer months play host too many festivals, which reinforce the
strong musical tradition of the island. As per the Dubliners you can’t travel
far in Ireland
without hearing music that could only be Irish. Within half and hour of the
city centre you will find yourself in villages and small towns, which are as
charming as the city is exciting. Stop off in some of the many pubs and
restaurants and you will see why traditional Irish cuisine is the Island’s best kept secret. If you decide to discover the
south coast with its beautiful beaches of Dingle and Iveragh, aim to be hungry
in Kinsale. There will be a Eurailpass tourist who plan to take more than few
train trips during a specified time without a set itinerary, purchasing of
these passes are good for unlimited train travel Eurailpass or Eurail Youth
pass can be an easy and economical way also.
This village is known as the
Gourmet Capital of Ireland. No doubt you’ll also discover informal music
sessions on your travels with fiddlers, flutists, pipers and the traditional players.
This type of evocative atmosphere washed down with some local brews, usually
adds up to a good night’s of fun in English.
For the sport enthusiast, Ireland has international reputation for
horseracing and Galway race Week which will in
end of July and the Dublin Horse Show begins in the month of August these two
are the major events in social calendar. Ireland also has an international
reputation as the Golf Mecca of Europe with the Lush parkland courses and
breezy coastal links rated as some of the most challenging and beautiful in the
world. The Old Course at Ballybunion in County
Kerry is Tom Watson’s favorite; Lahinch
in Country Clare was built by scots who wanted to be reminded of St Andrews,
while the Royal Portush course in Northern
Ireland is the only course in Ireland to have hosted the British
Open and is a favorite with Tiger Woods. If your time in Ireland is
Limited you will need to be selective. Dublin
and the sunny southeast are the most popular destinations, but not to be
overlooked are the unspoilt Aran Islands and the west of Ireland, where little has changed
in the last one hundred years, giving visitors the sense of tranquility made
famous by poems.
And if you look on the food in
Ireland there is lots of names which I also in the beginning not even able to
pronouns but slowly I came to know some how what is what not with full fledge
but some of the famous are Galway Salmon, Dublin Coddle, Ulster Fry and the
Irish Stew are some of the delicacies of the Emerald Isle and Boxty, Barm
Brack, champ Cruibins, Colcannon also and are the exotic names for the basic which
have nourished Ireland for generations. The secret of their success is in their
ingredients. Irish seafood from Dublin bay
prawns and oysters to the salmon of Galway are
known to the world over. Not surprising therefore that such a rich nutritional
heritage has given way to some of the finest cookery schools in the world.
